A workforce operations platform for flexible staffing.

Opus needed one system for flexible staffing across Malaysia and Singapore: shift discovery, worker matching, scheduling, appraisals, payments, notifications, and reporting. Scellus designed and built it in 3 months, with a working prototype ready in 2 weeks.

The problem

Flexible staffing breaks when the workflow lives in spreadsheets and chat threads.

For workers, flexible work only works when opportunities are easy to find and simple to apply for.

For employers, flexibility creates a different problem. They need reliable workers with the right skills, available at the right time, for the right shift.

Without a system, the workflow turns messy fast. Managers post shift requirements by hand and screen workers over scattered chat messages. Confirming availability takes guesswork. Updates get missed. Worker quality is hard to track, and employers can’t see how shifts are actually filling.

Opus needed a platform that made flexible staffing easier to manage on both sides of the marketplace.

Building Opus meant solving the whole staffing workflow, from matching to payment.

    Workers needed to discover and apply for suitable shifts quickly. Employers needed to post roles, manage applicants, and confirm staffing without dealing with complex admin screens.

    The system needed to match workers to shifts based on practical criteria such as skills, experience, location, availability, and past appraisal data.

    Reduce manual coordination

    Shift work involves reminders, updates, confirmations, changes, and follow-ups. The platform needed to handle all of it instead of pushing work into WhatsApp threads or spreadsheets.

    Both workers and employers needed enough context before committing. Profiles, ratings, and appraisals became important parts of the trust layer.

What we built

A single workflow for discovery, matching, and payment.

Scellus designed and built the core platform for Opus, covering the full workflow from discovery to matching, scheduling, appraisals, payment, and reporting. Workers found better-fit shifts. Employers ran flexible staffing with far less back-and-forth.

Platform features

The product connected every major step in the staffing workflow.

  1. Worker and company profiles

    Workers built profiles showing their skills, experience, ratings, and past appraisals, so employers had real context before assigning a shift. Company profiles worked both ways: workers could see who they’d be working for and what roles were open.

  2. Shift discovery and matching logic

    Matching logic weighed skills, experience, location, availability, and appraisal history to surface the right opportunities for each worker. Employers spent less time filtering irrelevant applicants and found better-fit workers faster.

  3. Automated scheduling and alerts

    The scheduling layer handled shift assignments, confirmations, reminders, and real-time notifications, cutting the admin work between ‘we need someone’ and ‘the shift is confirmed.’

  4. Appraisal and rating system

    After each shift, employers rated and reviewed workers, building a feedback loop that surfaced reliable performers and sharpened future matching. Workers built a track record they could point to, shift after shift.

  5. Payment integration

    Employers paid workers directly through the app, closing the loop from shift posting to payout.

  6. Reporting and analytics

    Employers could track activity, workforce performance, shift fulfilment, and operational trends in one place, turning flexible hiring into something they could actually measure.

  7. Secure, scalable infrastructure

    Secure authentication, data protection, API integrations, and scalable cloud infrastructure formed the platform’s backbone, built to grow without compromising stability or user trust.

The work started with the core flow: how a worker finds a shift, how an employer posts a requirement, how matching happens, how both sides are notified, how a shift is confirmed, and how performance is tracked after the work is done.

From there, we moved quickly into product design and development.

The team delivered a working prototype within 2 weeks, validating the core experience before expanding into the full build.

    Structuring how worker data, shift requirements, ratings, location, availability, and appraisal history could be used to improve matching quality.

    Building notifications, scheduling, confirmations, reminders, payments, and appraisals into the product workflow.

    Architecting the APIs, authentication, data handling, and cloud infrastructure needed to support production usage.
